Preteen Birthday Party Ideas

Planning a birthday party for a pre-teen, depending upon how close they are, can be challenging.

Planning a preteen birthday party can prove challenging. Selecting the right theme for the party may determine your child's social status at school in his group of friends. If your child has a specific interest, it makes the decisions easier. Structure the party around that interest and have your child invite his friends for an enjoyable celebration. Does this Spark an idea?

Boys Sleepover

Plan a sleepover for your child. At least one father provides supervision and guidance for the boys while not blatantly controlling them or their activities. Boy's sleepovers include activities such as playing with a play-station, or other electronic games, late into the night. Keep the children entertained by planning games in advance and keeping the kids constantly involved. In addition to the electronic games, plan activities such as a dart board game. Place small notes into some of the balloons and rolled-up dollar bills into others before they are inflated. The boys throw the darts and see what comes out of the burst balloon. The notes direct the kids to perform innocent and embarrassing activities in front of the group and they get to keep the dollar bills. The embarrassing activities can include imitating a chicken or having them walk and quack like a duck.

Girls Celebrity Sleepover

Several mothers provide direction and guidance for the girls. Throw a celebrity party by providing lots of old clothes and make-up. The girls choose the celebrity they want to be at the beginning of the party and they then pick through old clothing to dress up. They use the make-up on each other to change into the celebrity of their choice. Provide lots of mirrors, make-up and music. Shop used clothing stores to come up with a variety of outlandish clothing.

Co-ed Luau Party

A coed party theme can be an outdoor or indoor luau. Lots of Hawaiian music and plenty of island foods are essential. Trying new and different foods is a major part of the fun. Girls arriving at the party are given leis and flowers to place in their hair while boys are giving broad-brimmed straw hats to wear. Activities such as dancing under the limbo stick and hula dancing competition are hilarious activities. If the weather is agreeable the guests are encouraged to wear bathing suits or casual dress and lots of lawn chairs and sun block are available. Set up water sprinklers for the guests to cool down in.
