Spongebob Squarepants Birthday Party Ideas

If you're faced with the task of planning a Spongebob Squarepants birthday party, you're in luck. No one will forget a birthday spent eating Krabby Patties in Jellyfish Fields. Between the bright and cheerful color scheme and the endless opportunities for injecting a bit of Bikini Bottom humor into the games, food and decor, a Spongebob party is as much fun to plan as it is to attend. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

There are several ways to make Spongebob Squarepants birthday party invitations. You can make homemade invitations if you're crafty. Using your artistic talent and a sheet of craft foam, trace and then cut out the Spongebob shape. Use wobbly eyes, pipe-cleaner arms and legs and construction paper to make his clothing. Write the pertinent party information on an index card and adhere it to Spongebob's backside.

An easier way to make Spongebob invitations is to download pictures of Spongebob and his friends and design your own invitations with your desktop publishing program. Type in the pertinent party information, place the images around the text and print the invitations onto card stock or regular sheets of paper. Party-supply stores sell pre-made Spongebob party invitations and thank-you cards if you'd rather not make them yourself.

Decorations

You can buy Spongebob Squarepants party decorations, such as plates, cups, balloons and centerpieces, from party-supply stores, but there are plenty of decorations that you can make yourself, too. Hang streamers from helium balloons to make jellyfish. Make cardboard cutouts of underwater "street signs" with arrows pointing to Spongebob locations, like Bikini Bottom, Sand Mountain, Goo Lagoon, Jellyfish Fields, Kelp Forest and Mermalair.

Party Foods

Try recreating Spongebob's house with a real pineapple. Use construction paper to create a little gray door, two windows, and a periscope "chimney." Use hot glue to adhere them to the pineapple. Later, just cut up the pineapple to eat; the hot glue won't damage the pineapple. Serve hamburgers and call them Krabby Patties.

You can decorate your birthday cake to look like Squidward's Easter Island head house and then frost it with pre-made gray fondant. Make a tall cake by stacking a few layers of round or square cake, then trim it into shape with a bread knife, using a picture of the house to guide you. Another option is a sheet cake decorated to look like Spongebob himself or his best friend Patrick Star.

Activities

You can make a pin-the-tie-on-Spongebob Squarepants birthday game at home. On a piece of poster board, create a large image of Spongebob without a tie. If you're doubting your artistic abilities, try using a Spongebob poster; they're widely available at poster displays in drug stores and novelty stores. If you use a poster, just trace the tie onto a piece of red construction paper. If you've made your own poster, then measure and cut out a red tie that will fit. Trace and cut out enough ties for everyone at the party; put a loop of tape or piece of double-sided tape will help them stick. Guests stand in line and take turns trying to put Spongebob's tie in place while blindfolded.

Another Spongebob party idea is a musical jellyfish game. Tape a few streamer "tentacles" onto the edges of a helium balloon and then use a length of streamer around the outer edge to create a "ring" (more like a belt) around the outside of the jellyfish. When the music starts, players bat at the jellyfish to pass it from one player to another, and whoever is touching it when the music stops is "out." It's similar to musical chairs, but with the added danger of a possible jellyfish "sting."
