Things To Pack For A Hawaii Vacation

Visitors to Hawaii must not forget to bring a camera.

Millions of visitors travel to the Hawaiian islands each year to take in its beautiful climate, beaches and topography. Regardless of whether the trip includes business or pleasure, packing for the trip requires a number of similar items such as cameras, swimsuits, fancier clothing for romantic evenings and plenty of sunscreen.

Identification

Although not necessary for United States citizens because Hawaii joined the union more than 50 years ago, the safest choice includes bringing along proper identification beyond a driver's license. This means traveling with a United States passport. For noncitizens, travel to Hawaii requires a passport.

Casual and Beach Wear

The climate of Hawaii necessitates bring many loose-fitting, breathable clothing choices such as shorts, sandals, skirts, short-sleeved T-shirts and short-sleeved button-down shirts. Because of the heat, stay clear of wool clothing and only break out the Gore-Tex in the event of a downpour. Many visitors, especially women, travel with more than one bathing suit, in case they have the opportunity to swim in both fresh water and salt water. Hawaii's official tourism website, Go Hawaii, also recommends that tourists bring a set of warm clothes when visiting some of the higher altitude areas of the islands, such as Haleakala National Park.

Upscale Wear

Hawaii offers many romantic hot spots such as restaurants, lounges and clubs; therefore, visitors need to pack clothing appropriate for such places. For men, this list of clothing items includes: a pair of well-kept khaki pants or suit pants, a long-sleeved button-down shirt, dress shoes and an appropriate tie, although for extremely nice spots a suit should be added to the list in spite of the hot weather. For women, the list includes sun dresses and heels; however, that "perfect" black dress should join the list as well.

Camera

With so many gorgeous sights including beaches, sunsets, sunrises, volcanoes and rain forest, traveling to Hawaii requires bringing a camera. Although many people prefer a digital camera in today's age, disposable cameras still provide a useful function, especially those of the waterproof variety. These cameras allow visitors to take pictures during scuba and snorkel activities.

Sunscreen

The packing list must contain an ample amount of sunscreen. Not only for protection from the sun's rays at the beach, sunscreen comes in useful anytime visitors spend time in the sun, whether shopping outdoors, visiting parks or simply sitting outside reading a book.

Other Accessories

Other items to add to the packing list include maps of the area, hotel and airline proof-of-purchase and personal toiletries such as lip balm, toothpaste and toothbrush.
