Tiki Kid Games

Play games at your tiki party with leis.

A tiki party is one that has a beach or luau theme. If your child has a summer birthday, a tiki party may be an appropriate way to celebrate with friends and family because of the warm temperatures. To throw a successful tiki party, you should have tropical decorations and games for kids to enjoy.

Lei Toss

A lei is a wreath of flowers -- real or fake -- that you wear around your neck during luaus. For a kids game, use the leis as a prop for tossing. Set up an unlit tiki torch a few feet away from where the kids are standing. Ensure the tiki torch is not too tall. You can find small or short tiki torches at outdoor patio stores. Each kid at the party will get a chance to toss the lei around the tiki torch. The child who successfully tosses the lei around the tiki torch wins the game.

Bobbing for Seashells

Bobbing for seashells is a game that is similar to bobbing for apples, but instead of kids sticking their heads in a bucket of water to extract apples, they extract large seashells. Fill a large bucket with water and put a variety of large seashells into the bucket. The kids stand with their hands behind their backs and must dunk their faces into the bucket to pull the seashells out with their teeth. The child who pulls out the most seashells before the timer goes off wins a prize.

Bowling with Coconuts

Bowling with coconuts is a bowling game where coconuts are used as bowling balls. You must drill or hammer holes in the coconuts and drain the milk before playing, so that kids can put their fingers into the coconuts before rolling them. Then, set up plastic bowling pins on one side of the lawn or patio. Each child has the chance to roll the coconut towards the pins to knock them down. The kid who knocks down the most pins in one try wins the bowling game.

Hula Hoops

Hula hoops make festive tiki games that kids can play competitively. You will need a few hula hoops so a few kids can play the game at one time. Give each player a hula hoop and instruct the kids to begin hula hooping when the music starts. To make the game harder, instruct the kids to lift one arm straight above their heads as they hula hoop. Or, tell them to stand on one foot. The last person standing wins.

Cake Eating Contest

Pineapple upside down cake is a food that is often associated with tiki parties. Use this dessert as a game by hosting a cake eating contest. The participants each get a giant slice of pineapple upside down cake that they have to eat without using their hands. The first kid to finish the entire slice of cake using only his mouth wins the game.
