Things To Do For Baby Showers

A baby shower should be a fun, relaxing experience for the mother-to-be. These parties generally feature gifts, games, food and ice-breakers that are all themed around the baby's impending arrival. The shower is typically planned by a friend of the expectant mother and it gives her family a chance to show their friendship and love for the mother and her baby.

Don't Say "Baby"

One game that is ongoing throughout the shower is "Don't Say Baby." When each guest arrives, give them a clothespin and briefly explain the rules. Every time you catch someone saying the word "baby," you get to take their clothespin. If someone catches you saying it, then you have to give up a clothespin. Whoever has the most clothespins at the end of the party wins a prize.

Ice-Breakers

Ice-Breakers are a way for guests to get to know one another. One such game is "Penny for your Thoughts." For this game, the host needs to have two pennies, each with the same year, for each guest. One of the pennies for each guest is dropped in a jar, while the guest keeps the other penny. When a penny is drawn from the jar, the guest with the corresponding year on their penny says a little about themselves and how they know the mother. Once everyone has gone, the pennies are placed back in the jar and one is drawn for a prize.

Baby Games

Some shower games imitate the things the mother will be doing to take care of the new baby. For example, Hang the Laundry times each guest as the hang a pile of laundry while holding a baby one arm and an cell phone in the other hand. Change the Diaper requires two guests to team up to change a diaper, but each participant can only use one hand.

Guess that Mess

There are several games that require the guests to correctly guess the nature of some baby related item. In "Baby Food Guess," several jars, without labels, are passed around, with the object of guessing the correct flavor of baby food. In "What's in the Diaper," smash candy into a diaper and allow each guest to examine and sniff the diaper to determine what kind of candy it its.
