Thrifty Teacher Gifts

Give your teacher a creative yet thrifty gift.

During holidays and at the end of the year, it is customary to give your teacher a gift of appreciation. Teacher gifts, however, do not have to be expensive to be unique. Select a gift that is creative and useful for your teacher while still being thrifty. Consider making your gift if you are crafty--or pairing a homemade gift with a store-bought gift.

Teacher's Tea Time

Design a "Teacher's Tea Time" gift. This is a creative, inexpensive gift that you can put together in minutes. Select a tea cup or coffee mug that reflects the style and personality of your teacher. Buy a box of fragrant tea--such as cinnamon or peppermint--and put it in a cellophane bag. In another cellophane bag, place white sugar cubes. Trim the bags with decorative ribbon, and place them in the tea cup. Finish off the gift by nestling a vintage sugar spoon into the cup.

Handmade Card Booklet

Design your own card booklet for your elementary school teacher that includes several pages telling her why you appreciate her. Simply draw and write on about 10 sheets of colorful cardstock. Consider writing your own poem to your teacher. Make sure that each page lists different reasons why you are thankful for your teacher. Have the book laminated and bound at a local copy center or office supply store.

Class Photo Frame

Make a customized photo frame for your teacher that features your class photo. Buy an inexpensive frame from your local craft shop. Paint the frame in a color of your choice. Use hot glue to embellish the frame with buttons, beads, faux jewels and other decorative items. Buy a small, wood plaque from your local craft store, paint it and write a special message to your teacher using a paint marker. Glue the plaque to the frame.
