Tumbling Birthday Party Ideas

Tumbling parties are fun for children.

Kids love to jump around and do flips, cartwheels and handstands, so a tumbling party is an ideal choice for an active child's birthday celebration. Whether you hold it at a kids' gym or in your backyard, make your child's tumbling party one to remember with games and treats that capture the energy and athletic spirit of gymnastics. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

The invitations will let your guests know you're having a tumbling party. Cut circles from gold card stock, or spray paint cardboard circles gold. Paint the Olympic rings symbol on the front with paint markers and write party information on the back. Or, use cutouts of famous gymnasts glued to white cards. Write the party information on the inside and add colorful confetti to the envelope.

Decorations

For an Olympic-themed tumbling party, hang cardboard gold, bronze and silver medals from ribbons the colors of the Olympic rings: red, green, yellow, blue and black. Paint letters on the medals to spell out "Happy Birthday!" Drape the table and chairs with fabric in the Olympic ring colors and use pictures or clip art of gymnastic equipment for place cards. If you would rather not have an Olympic theme, use the child's favorite colors and silhouettes of people in gymnastic poses for the banner instead, as well as for the tablecloth.

Cakes

Decorate a sheet cake to look like floor mats and add small dolls in gymnastic poses. Make a balance beam from candy, such as Twix or Kit Kat, or use wooden skewers to create parallel or uneven bars. Frost the cake with white frosting, and pipe the Olympic rings in the center. Add various toy gymnastic equipment or gold, silver and bronze medals.

Games

Create modified Olympic gymnastic events for your party games. Place a blanket on the floor and let the children do floor performances. Pad a 2-by-4 with a blanket, raise it off the floor with foam yoga bricks, and let the kids do balance beam routines. Attach ribbons to small dowel rods for the children to do rhythmic gymnastics. Have the children play games such as Twister or dodge ball. Relay races and Hula-hoop contests can be tumbling party games.

Party Favors

Buy water bottles in bright colors, paint guests' names on the bottles and decorate them with gymnastic-themed stickers. Fill gift bags with stickers, wristbands, bouncy balls, plastic coach's whistles, chocolate gold medals and jump ropes. Hand out Hula-hoops for the children to play with at the party, and then take home as a favor.
