You don't need to drive into any swimming pools or throw furniture out of any hotel windows to throw a great rock star birthday party. You do, however, want to go beyond simple rock star themed party favors and decorations. Live Show/Venue
The venue is important for a rock star birthday party. Nothing screams "rock 'n' roll" less than a boring living room. Try holding the party at a venue that features rock bands. Many will let you rent out the bar for a private party. Your birthday boy or girl will feel like a rock star in a dive bar surrounded by band graffiti and stickers, with a live show going on in the background. If you can't rent out a venue, try arranging the party around the date of a rock band that the person likes. You could surprise them by taking them to the show and then follow it up with a party afterward. If all else fails, hire a band to come play at the party. If it's not any band the person likes, have them play covers of favorite songs and let people act out their rock star fantasies by taking a crack at singing lead vocals.
Costumes
You'll probably be hard up for getting Mick Jagger or Jack White to show up at the party, so make it a true rock star birthday costume party instead. Have all the guests dress up like a different rock star, and make sure the guest of honor dresses like a classic rocker or one of his rock idols. Keep some rock star accessories on hand, such as big Elton John-style sunglasses, a Beatles mop-top and leather jackets.
Birthday Cake
While a picture-perfect representation of the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album cover may be hard to pull off, most bakeries make custom-made birthday cakes. Design a birthday cake that features the guest of honor's favorite album or rock star on it. Many bakeries will allow you to print a photo image on your cake. If all else fails, have the bakery put some music notes, a guitar or any other rock star-like decoration on the cake. You could also have the cake designed in the shape of a guitar or a music note.
