Teen Birthday Party Food Ideas

Teens would love a Mexican fiesta party.

Teens love to celebrate each birthday as it brings them closer to becoming old enough to drive, to go away to school, to vote or to live on their own. No matter what teen year you are celebrating with a birthday party, food is a must-consider part of the planning. The menu depends on the party theme or activity, be it bowling, skating, movies, paintball, spa or video games. Does this Spark an idea?

Luau

Planning food for a luau birthday party means thinking about the kinds of foods eaten in Hawaii and the Polynesian Isles. One Hawaiian luau food to consider for a teen birthday party is a roasted pig, which is called kalua pig. This is an extensive cooking process, so if you are not concerned about authenticity, cook a pork roast and shred it for sandwiches. Another fun luau food is a pupu platter, which is an assortment of Hawaiian appetizers such as bacon-wrapped pineapple, beef teriyaki and shrimp toasts. Fruit is plentiful in Hawaii, and a luau is not complete without a fruit platter consisting of fresh sliced or cubed pineapple, mandarin orange and orange wedges, sliced bananas and grapes. A traditional dessert for a luau is haupia, which is a pudding made with coconut milk.

Fiesta

A simple way to plan a fiesta birthday party is to think about setting up a buffet that includes several kinds of Mexican foods. Tacos are typically a favorite item on a fiesta buffet and can be either assembled and kept hot on a warming tray or constructed by guests by having all the fixings in bowls for adding to taco shells. Quesadillas are an easy fiesta food to include on a buffet as they can be made ahead, cut into smaller pieces and kept warm in a chaffing dish or on a warming tray. Tortilla chips with salsa and avocado dip work nicely on a fiesta buffet.

Sleepover

Teens can never spend enough time on the phone or hanging out with their friends. Hosting a sleepover is a teen's dream come true. Foods for a sleepover depend on the birthday girl or boy's favorite things to eat. Pizza is almost a must at a sleepover and if you want to be creative, each guest can make a personal pizza by having a bunch of different toppings available. Banana splits are a fun food item to let the party guests make while at the sleepover. Piling lots of different toppings and several flavors of ice cream on top of a banana is a party in and of itself.
