The Best Way To Delime A Dishwasher

Removing lime buildup from inside a dishwasher is a simple process.


If you live in an area with hard water, your dishwasher might develop a layer of white powder inside. This buildup is caused by the mineral deposits in your water and consists of calcium and lime. Buildup can clog the jets in the dishwasher and impede its ability to effectively clean your dishes. There are two cleaning mixtures you can use to delime your dishwasher. Does this Spark an idea?


Instructions


Vinegar


1. Empty the dishwasher so there are no dishes, glassware or silverware in it. Scrape out any food particles caught in the bottom.


2. Pour 1 cup of white distilled vinegar into the bottom of the empty dishwasher.


3. Turn the dishwasher on and let it run through a complete washing cycle.


4. Repeat this process on a monthly basis to prevent lime buildup in your dishwasher.


Bleach and Vinegar Method


5. Empty the dishwasher so there are no dishes, glassware or silverware in it. Scrape out any food particles caught in the bottom.


6. Pour 3/4 cup of standard laundry bleach into the bottom of the empty dishwasher.


7. Turn the dishwasher on and run it through the first wash cycle and wait for the water to drain out of the unit.


8. Pour 2 cups of white distilled vinegar into the empty dishwasher and turn it back on so it can complete the rest of the washing cycle.


9. Turn off the heat setting and, when the washing cycle is over, crack the dishwasher door open so the inside can air-dry.
