Warm weather and a tropical climate make Hawaii an ideal vacation spot.
Cool, tropical breezes and warm climate make Hawaii a year-round hot spot. The best part about planning a family vacation to Hawaii is that although each island is different, they all make for wonderful vacation spots and each for its own reason. While each island boasts beautiful beaches, rainbows, luaus, dinner cruises and tours, there are attractions that are exclusive to each and truly make each island worth visiting.
Oahu
Oahu is an island rich in Hawaiian history and culture, and it is considered to be the "main" island, and his home to the state capital of Honolulu. As home to Pearl Harbor, Oahu also played a pivotal part in American history. It is a humbling experience to visit and pay respect at the memorials.
Waikiki is the main tourist destination on the island, but if you stay in Waikiki, family activities are just footsteps from your hotel. Waikiki is within walking distance of the Honolulu zoo and aquarium, and just minutes from Ala Moana, the largest shopping center on the island. Other family-friendly attractions include Sea Life Park, Dole Plantation and Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park.
Maui
Maui is a family-friendly island, with many condo-hotel alternatives in the area. This is a perfect destination for families who need the amenities of home (and added space) while on vacation. Family-friendly attractions include the Maui Ocean Center, Maui Golf and Sports Park, and Haleakala. Maui was once a large whaling town, and Lahaina town is reflective of that history.
Kauai
Kauai is known as the "garden isle," with lush, green mountains, valleys and is a must-see for an outdoor adventurous family. Waterfalls, hiking and zip line tours are highlights on a trip to Kauai. There is a secluded and laid-back, island feel on Kauai. Scenic attractions include Hanalei Bay, Waialua River and Waimea Canyon.
The Big Island
The island of Hawaii is also known as "the Big Island," because it is the largest of the islands and it is also the youngest. It is the only island home to an active volcano, Kilauea, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Since the island is still young, the coastline is much rockier than the others and is home to some of the largest native Hawaiian, archaeological sites.
