Things To Do At A Luau Party

Can't make it to the beach? Bring the beach to you and your guests with a luau.

Luaus are a fun way to enjoy warm weather, good company and delicious food. But just like any party, luaus require activities to keep guests entertained and the party alive. So, what luau themed activities can you plan for you and your guests to enjoy? There are plenty of options, from games to crafts. Does this Spark an idea?

Games

It's not a luau without the tradition luau game of limbo. You don't even need a broomstick if you don't have one handy, a taunt garden hose or a flashlight, if it is dark enough, will work just fine. Just crank up the tropical music and see how low you can go. Up to a little hip shaking competition? Give each of your guests a hula hoop and tell them that they might want to get a little practice in before the competition begins. After everyone has had time to warm up, the one who can keep his hoop off the ground the longest using his hips wins. You can take a traditional party game, like charades, an make it perfect for a luau by making it Hawaiian themed. To play Hawaiian charades, just have each guest come up with Hawaiian or tropical themed song and movie titles. Write them down on small pieces of paper, fold them up, drop them in a bowl and you are ready to go.

Crafts

Games aren't your own activity option when you are throwing a luau. Crafts are great for keeping guests entertained as well. You can purchase make your own lei kits from party supply companies like The Oriental Trading Company and let each guest create their floral neck adornment. Purchase supplies for your guests to decorate their own flip-flops. You will have to find out each guest's shoe size before the party, but the fun will be worth the little extra work. You can purchase solid colored foam flip-flops, feathers, fake flowers, ribbon and even rhinestones. Use a little glue and you and all your guests will have very stylish feet. Plus, these flip-flops can double as party favors.

Other

Don't feel like playing games or crafting at your luau? Then maybe you can hire a hula dance instructor to come and teach you and all your guests this traditional Hawaiian dance. You might not be up to roasting a pig over the fire, but you can still roast hot dogs or pork kabobs with pineapple. You can create a whole cook-it-over-the-fire buffet for your guests to choose from and then let them roast their own meal. This will keep them entertained and make it so that you don't have to slave over the grill to feed your guests.
