Party Ideas For A 14th Birthday

An Americal Idol party theme might appeal to your group.

The 14th birthday is a milestone event for teenagers because it often signifies that they are ready for high school and a whole new world. The teens are just beginning to express an interest in the opposite sex, which gives boy-girl parties a new feel. Teens of this age need some supervision on your part, just to be sure they stay out of trouble. Party ideas for a 14th birthday include at-home ideas and parties away from your home. Does this Spark an idea?

American Idol Party

Host an American Idol-style party in your home, complete with a karaoke machine. Encourage guests to come prepared with their favorite song and ready to sing in front of friends. Pass out sheets of paper before the competition and ask guests to rank the singers on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest. The top ten highest points getters continue in the event and sing another song. You can also divide the number of guests in half and use the top vote getters. For example, if you have 12 guests, let six move on. Keep the game going until you are down to two last singers, with guests voting each round. The highest score at the end of the night is the winner.

All-Day Scavenger Hunt

Create lists of items for the teens to find and ask for help from neighbors and others in the community. Make a second list, which details the locations where the teens can find help in gathering everything on their list. On the day of the 14th birthday party, divide the guests into small groups and send them out with a copy of the list. The first team to find everything on their list is the winner. Alternatively, arm the groups with a digital camera. They take photos of the items on the list, rather than bringing back the actual items.

Gypsy Party

Decorate your home with silk and satin fabrics and hang celestial-style decorations on the walls. Turn the lights down low and use small candles, which add to the atmosphere of the party. Treat party guests to different types of fortune telling, including palm reading and the reading of tea leaves. Set up stations around your home and ask adults to man the stations. The teens will get so caught up in the party atmosphere that they won't notice if your predictions are true. Alternatively, hire a professional fortune teller.
