Party Ideas For Kids On Long Island

You can't deny that Long Island, New York, is a kid-friendly place. Between state parks and beaches, science and maritime museums, amusement parks and arcades, birthday party options for kids are unlimited. In the summertime, take advantage of the bay to the north or beautiful coastal beaches to south. For winter birthdays, kids can play indoor miniature golf or get their hands dirty at a museum party. Does this Spark an idea?

A Beach Ball

Beach parties are great fun. And no matter where on Long Island you live, you're never more than a 30-minute drive from the ocean or bay. Start a beach party fairly early so you can carve out enough space for all of the guests. Construct a makeshift fence around the perimeter with posts and bright streamers. Tell all kids to stay in this area unless accompanied by an adult---and be sure to invite plenty of parents. You'll need as many extra eyes as you can get. Lie out tons of towels and serve pre-made heroes and chips. Fill coolers with lots of water. You can even set out sunblock in case some kids show up unprepared. Some great favors could be sun hats, beach balls and water floaties.

Unique Museum Parties

The Long Island Children's Museum (LICM) in Garden City has a variety of birthday themes for all ages. For ages two to five, there are TotSpot parties, Messy Merriment and Story Art. For ages four through 12, you can throw a Museum Adventure Party, Happy Bug Day and Weird Science parties. Capacity for parties at the museum is 40 people. They offer weekend and weekday parties with discounts for families with a museum membership. LICM even has a food, beverage and cake package, but you're always welcome to provide your own.

An Adventure Land

Adventureland, located in Farmingdale, offers a great birthday party package with lots of options to choose from. Your guests will have access to the entire park with unlimited riding. The park will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza and drinks in addition to party supplies like hats and candy. Other perks to choose from include your child's name lit on the park's marquee on Route 110. A party coordinator can escort the kids to every ride. Access to the park's refurbished arcade is another option.
