Party Ideas For A Hip Hop Bar

Research your guest musicians carefully before booking them for your hip-hop party.

Whether you're the owner of a hip-hop bar or someone who wants to hold a party there, there are several good party themes that would work for this type of bar. You want to consider the type of customer base you have, as well as what their personal tastes are regarding music. When deciding on which musicians to book for a party at your club, you should first attend some of their performances and speak with them about how much they charge per hour, as well as what styles of music they specialize in. Does this Spark an idea?

1990s Hip-Hop Theme

One idea is to have a 1990s hip-hop-themed party at your club. To make it fun, ask guests to bring their favorite 1990s hip-hop CD or vinyl album for the disc jockey to play during the party, and you can ask them to dress up in 1990s hip-hop fashions. Another thing you can do is host a freestyle contest in which a few party attendees perform 1990s rap songs for a small and fun prize.

Ladies' Hip-Hop Night

Another idea is to host a ladies' hip-hop party where only females will attend the event. You can invite a few local female independent hip-hop artists to the party and have them perform their music on stage. You can also sell some of their latest CDs at the party along with established female hip-hop artists such as Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Roxanne Shante, JJ Fad and Lil Kim. Finally, you can host a dance contest for the party attendants.

Hip-Hop Movie Night

Another idea is to hold a party in which you feature some hip-hop movies at the bar such as Krush Groove, Beat Street, Above the Rim, Sugar Hill, Juice and New Jack City. At the party, you can have some of the guests compete in a contest in which they perform certain songs from the movies' soundtracks, and the top three winners will receive a gift bag filled with two nonfiction books about hip-hop culture.

Global Hip-Hop Party

If a majority of your club's visitors come from various countries and they listen to hip-hop from their native lands, you can host a global hip-hop party at your bar. You can ask each guest to dress up in the colors of the flags that represent their countries, and also serve some well-known traditional dishes at the party. For example, you can have some Jamaican rice and peas, English-influenced fish and chips, West African jollof rice or the Brazilian fish stew.
