Pirate Party Cake Ideas

The pirate theme offers many distinct options for cakes. Many of the pirate party cake ideas require only basic cake decorating skills. The pirate cake ideas can also be used when ordering a cake from a professional bakery. The pirate party theme may be considered a boy's theme, but it is equally fitting for a little girl. Treasure Chest


Sheet cakes serve as the basis for a treasure chest cake. Stack four or five sheet cakes with icing between each layer. Carve the top of the cake to resemble the top of a treasure chest. Cover the cake with brown frosting. Use fondant or icing to create the details of the treasure chest such as the hinges. Add costume jewelry or foil wrapped chocolate coins around the treasure chest.


Pirate Ship


A pirate ship cake can be assembled with a sheet cake and a few embellishments. Start with a rectangular sheet cake. Stack two sheet cakes if you need more servings. Use a knife to shape one end of the cake into a point in the style of a pirate ship. Ice the cake with brown frosting. Make a ridge of icing around the top of the cake to resemble the sides of a pirate ship. Make sails from colorful paper and attach them to wooden skewers. Place the sails into the ship. Place toy pirates on the ship. Cover the cake board around the pirate ship with blue icing to represent the water.


Cupcake Cake


Cupcake cakes are a popular option for birthday parties. The individual cupcakes are arranged in a particular shape and iced to resemble one large cake. For a pirate party, the cupcakes could be arranged in the shape of a pirate ship, a treasure box, a parrot, a sword or an eye patch. Arrange the cupcakes in the shape that you select. Attach each cupcake to the cake board with a small amount of icing. Cover all of the cupcakes in one layer of icing. Use other colors of icing to add the details on the cake.


Cupcakes


Cupcakes are easy to bake and decorate, even with limited decorating skills. After the cupcakes are cool, top them with a simple swirl of frosting or ice them smooth. Embellish the top of the cupcakes with a small toy related to the pirate theme. Foil wrapped chocolate coins, a plastic parrot or toy rings to represent treasure are fun options for the top of the cupcakes. The party guests can keep the toys after eating their cupcakes. You could also cover the tops of the cupcakes with crushed graham crackers to resemble sand. Each cupcake will be its own island.


Island


Make an island out of cake. Start with a round cake. Taper the edges of the cake to make it look like the edge of an island disappearing into the water. Ice the cake with brown icing. Use crushed graham crackers on top of the frosting to create the look of sand. Cover the cake board with blue icing to make the appearance of water. Add a toy palm tree and treasure chest on the island.
