Pineapples can be carved to use for centerpieces or serving dishes.
Pineapples can be carved into inexpensive centerpieces as well as serving dishes for a party. Fill the pineapple with fruit salad or other tropical-inspired dessert. You can even carve a face into the pineapple and create a pineapple lantern. Don't be intimidated by a pineapple's exterior. With a little patience, you can transform a pineapple into a serving dish, centerpiece or lantern. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Pineapple Boat
Remove any discolored leaves from the pineapple. Cut the pineapple in half vertically. Cut into the pineapple to remove the fruit. Do not remove the leaves. Cut up the pineapple into chunks and fill the boat with the fruit. You can add a variety of fruit to the boat.
Pineapple Bowls
Turning a pineapple into serving bowls is a simple way to display fruit. To make two pineapple bowls, cut across the pineapple horizontally. Remove the top and bottom of the pineapple so the fruit sits flat. Use a sharp knife to remove the inside of the pineapple. Fill the pineapple with mixed fruit.
Pineapple Flowers
Wash and dry the pineapple, then remove the top. Slice the pineapple across horizontally. Each slice should be about 1/4-inch thick. Place one slice at a time on a cutting board. Use a flower-shaped cookie cutter to cut flowers out of the pineapple. Use a melon baller to carve balls out of cantaloupe. Cut the cantaloupe balls in half and use as the center of the flower. Skewer the pineapple flower in the center. Fill the remainder of the skewer with grapes, sliced strawberry or more melon balls. Arrange the flowers in a vase.
Pineapple Lantern
Carve a pineapple lantern for your next luau or barbecue. Cut off the top of the pineapple. Use a sharp knife to remove the core of the pineapple. Carve a face into the front of the pineapple similar to a jack-o-lantern. Place a tea light inside of the pineapple and light it. Place the top of the pineapple back on. You can secure the top with a few toothpicks.
