Outdoor Beach Party Ideas For Preschool

Children will have it made in the shades at the outdoor beach party.

At the end of winter, a beach party is the perfect way to celebrate the beginning of warm weather and sunny days. Preschoolers will be thrilled for an excuse to get outside and participate in fun, summery activities. Any of several ideas for decorations and activities will make your outdoor beach party a hit with children in preschool.

Decorations

With some festive summer-theme props, it's easy to decorate for a preschoolers outdoor beach party. It's easy to create a beachy backdrop with poster paint and a large refrigerator box, complete with ocean, sand and palm trees. Lawn chairs and beach umbrellas will complete the beach appearance. A sand area with beach sand will let preschoolers feel as though they really are spending a day at the beach.

Bring Your Own Bathing Suit

It wouldn't seem like a day at the beach without the proper attire. Partygoing preschoolers should be invited to bring a beach towel, bathing suit, bucket and pail, and other beach accessories. To protect them from the sun, those at the party should bring sunglasses and sunscreen, too. At the party, teachers and other helpers can greet the preschoolers with a bright-colored lei and a hula skirt. With beach-ready clothes, the party is ready to start.

Activities and Fun

Once the attendees have arrived, it's time to let the fun start. Plenty of low-key outdoor activities, such as playing in a sandbox, tossing around a beach ball or spinning a hula-hoop, fit in perfectly with a beach theme and please the guests. A flashy pinata is always exciting for children. Kids love treasure hunts, too, so bury some prizes in a sandbox or plan an elaborate hunt with clues leading to an ultimate prize. Make sure all the kids get prizes.

Food

A beach party is the perfect chance to whip up some fun lunches and snacks for the kids. Picnic lunches are a simple yet fun way to feed the guests. Use cookie cutters to turn the sandwiches into ocean-theme shapes. If a grill is handy, traditional barbecued foods, such as hot dogs and hamburgers, are also child-friendly and appropriate for a beach party. For a really special treat, make an octopus hot dog by cutting uncooked hot dogs in half lengthwise up to about 1 inch from the top end. To finish the legs, cut the halved sections again. Boil the octopus-shaped treats until the four legs curl up, then enjoy.
