This may sound like a daunting task at first, but as you start brainstorming ideas, you'll see that there are plenty of appropriate party games for a senior citizen's birthday. Does this Spark an idea?
Bingo
Bingo is a popular game among men and women of all ages. To make the bingo cards easier to read, purchase or make large-print cards. Also, make sure that whoever is calling out the numbers speaks slowly, loudly and distinctly, and gives the guests enough time to mark their cards before calling the next number. You can give a small prize to the winner of each round and a large prize to the overall winner.
Name That Tune
Name That Tune is a simple game that can brings hours of fun to any party. Prepare for this game ahead of time by having CDs with popular songs on hand. If you have the time, burn the songs you want to use onto one CD, so that you don't have to keep switching CDs during the game. At the party, play each song and wait for the first person to tell you the name of the song. If you are worried that some of your guests won't say their answers loud enough to be heard, you can give each guest a bell to ring when they believe they have the correct answer. This will also help you recognize who had the answer first. To make the game spark nostalgic feelings, choose classic titles from the seniors' teen and young adult years.
Gift Steal
Gift Steal requires little movement, and yet it can get very competitive. As the host, you must buy and wrap one small gift for each person at the party. The gifts do not need to be expensive, but should be unisex so that anyone at the party might want them. Also, as everyone will end up with a gift at the end of the game, there is no need to buy party favors. Once you are ready to play the game, place all the gifts on a small table in the middle of the room and have the guests sit around it. One person starts the game by opening any gift he chooses. The person to his left goes next, and must decide if he wants to steal a gift from the person beside him or if he wants to take something from the unopened pile. The game continues like this until all the gifts in the middle are opened. If people start stealing each other's gifts, this game can get quite competitive and fun, so encourage people to steal.
Story Share Bag
Although this isn't a game that can be won, it does encourage interesting conversation and can be quite funny at times. To prepare, cut several pieces of paper into long, thin strips and write a question on each one. For example, "What was your first car?" "What was the worst job you ever had?" "What was one of your most embarrassing moments?" At the party, have your guests sit in a circle and take turns pulling questions from the bag. Be sure to let your guests know that they can refuse to answer any question they choose. After all, this game is supposed to be fun.
