School Fundraising Ideas With Umbrellas

Umbrellas are an option for a school fundraiser.

Fundraisers are used to help bring in revenue. Schools use fundraisers for various needs, such as fundraisers for school program expenses, to raise money for general school use, or for specific school needs such as repairs to the school bathrooms or new paint on the walls. Using umbrellas to appeal to all the rainmakers in the community can be a fun way to raise funds.

Golf Umbrellas

Golf umbrellas are the large umbrellas used for poor weather conditions. As a fundraiser, the school custom orders a design, such as alternating the school colors with the school mascot on one side and the name of the school. In the case of a specific activity, it might have school colors combined with a symbol of the activity, such as the mascot playing an instrument to represent the band, spinning a flag to represent the flag team or wearing a cheer outfit and carrying pom-poms to represent cheer. Ask for donations of a specific amount. The amount should be higher than the cost of the umbrellas to the school; if the umbrellas cost $20, ask for donations of $25 or $30 for the umbrella.

Hand Printed Umbrellas

For an artistic fundraiser that involves the children and gives character, having students hand-paint the umbrellas and then selling the finished product is an option. The students are given a white umbrella and appropriate fabric paint. They paint the umbrellas in any preferred design. When the paint dries, spray it with waterproof finishing spray. Sell the umbrellas to parents or visitors to the school during a school event or through order forms as preferred. When painting, wait until a bright and sunny day to avoid weather problems.

Beach Gear

Before the summer begins, when families are getting ready for fun at the beach or for locations near the beach, selling a beach umbrella complete with a beach bag and some fun beach items is an appropriate fundraiser. For beach items, obtain toys like shovels from a local dollar store. Buy beach umbrellas and a beach bag. Fill the bag with the toys and add in items like sunscreen. Sell the gear for a five to ten dollar total profit per kit, providing the essentials for a family trip to the beach while also making some extra money for the school.

Custom Parasols

Umbrellas for fundraisers do not always need to relate to rainy weather conditions. A delicate parasol is another fund-raising option available to schools. Parasols are ideal for keeping the sun off the skin during hot and sunny weather conditions, providing portable shade and preventing sunburns. Students can custom paint the parasols and teachers can write names on the parasols for the buyer as requested.
