Decorate a surf party invitation to look like a surfboard.
Host a surf-themed party for any occasion, from a child's birthday to a high school graduation party or casual anniversary celebration. Surf parties do not need to be held at the beach, as any party location can be decorated with beach towels, umbrellas, surfboards and tiki torches to create a beach scene. Surf-themed invitations will help guests know what to expect when they arrive at the party.
Surfboard-Shaped Invitation
Cut out surfboard-shaped invitations and decorate them to look like surfboards before writing the party information on the back. Use a cardboard template to trace the surfboard shape on bright-colored cardstock and cut it out. Glue stripes on the front of the surfboard in coordinating colors or make a design out of polka dots or stenciled tropical flowers. If the surf party is for a child, let the child help with decorating the surfboards.
Photo Invitation
Create a homemade personalized invitation by taking a photo of the party's guest of honor wearing an outlandish surfer outfit and standing next to a surfboard. Print one copy of the photo for each invitation and attach it to the front of a brightly colored card with double-sided tape. Decorate around the photo with Hawaiian stickers and print the party information on the inside of the card.
Invitation Wording
Word the invitations in a creative way to incorporate surfing phrases or lingo. For example, Birthday in a Box suggests writing, "Surf's Up! Grab your board and surf on over to [Name]'s Birthday Bash!" Another idea is to list the party's date and time under the heading of "High Tide" and the address of the party under "[Last name]'s Beach" or "Catch a wave to." Also mention on the invitation whether guests should come wearing beach attire such as Hawaiian-print shirts and beachcomber hats.
Presentation Ideas
Although bulky invitations cost a little extra to mail, they can help guests get in the spirit for a surf-themed party. Alternately, the host can hand-deliver these invitations to save on postage. One idea is to punch a hole in the top of each invitation and tie it to an accessory that the guest can wear to the party, such as a pair of plastic sunglasses or an inexpensive straw hat. Another creative presentation is to put the invitation in a zip-top bag containing some sand and seashells.
