Incorporate pink and brown into your sugar and spice themed baby shower.
When throwing a baby shower for a mother-to-be, your imagination is the limit. If the expected baby is a girl, pass on the gender-neutral baby showers in favor of a party that is both sweet and feminine. Like the nursery rhyme "sugar and spice and everything nice," a sugar and spice themed baby shower is one way to celebrate the birth of the baby in a way that allows you to flex your creativity in a pretty and fun way. When setting up this type of party, incorporate ideas that reflect sweetness and spice in creativity, appearance and flavor.
Food and Cake Ideas
When considering ideas for sugar and spice baby showers, look for foods that are spicy, sweet or a combination of both. Food ideas include meatballs in a sweet sauce, a vegetable tray with a spicy dip, and chicken wings that are sweet, spicy or both. Serve sweets such as cinnamon buns, a tray of sugar-and-spice cookies or cupcakes frosted with brown or pink frosting. If serving cookies, offer guests strawberry, chocolate and plain milk in clear carafes. Decorate sheet cakes by adding the words "Sugar & Spice and Everything Nice." Another idea for a baby shower cake is to serve a two-layered cake with one layer made of chocolate and the second layer made of a strawberry cake.
Favor Ideas
Party favors that reflect the theme of sugar and spice are appropriate for this type of shower. Buy decorative or mason jars and fill them with the dry ingredients for your favorite sugar or spice cookie recipe. Print out the actual recipe on colorful paper and attach it to the jar using pink or brown ribbon. Other ideas include spicy and sweet scented candles and chocolate bars with custom wrappers. Jars filled with sugar and cinnamon are another idea for favors.
Decoration Ideas
When decorating, consider hanging brown and pink paper lanterns from the ceiling. Create a banner by cutting out large squares, circles or triangles from colored card stock. Using complimentary colored card stock, cut out the letters for the words "Sugar & Spice." Glue the letters to the original shapes that you've cut out. Using a hole punch, put two holes along the top of each cutout and string them together. Hang your banner over the food table, at the entrance to the party or wherever it is best suited. Cover your tables with pink tablecloths and use napkins and plates that are shades of brown or vice verse. Decorative bowls with white sugar and swirled cinnamon throughout are an idea for centerpieces.
Game Ideas
Guess the Spice and Guess the Sugar are two games for Sugar & Spice parties. Prior to the shower, put different spices in small, unlabeled jars or bowls. Write the name of the spice on the bottom of the jar where it isn't visible. Pass the spices around and let each guest guess what the spices are. The person who picks the most correctly is the winner of the game. For Guess the Sugar, blindfold the mother-to-be and give her several different sweets. Have her smell the sweet food and guess what it is in 20 seconds or less.
