Summer birthdays allow a wide range of outdoor activities and themes. If you're having a party for a child, you can have a nature-themed party or pattern it after the child's favorite sport. Summertime parties are also a great way to help your child stay active and have fun at the same time. Does this Spark an idea?
Knights of the Round Table
You can have a medieval-themed party that would make King Arthur proud. First, make invitations on a parchment-styled paper and use a font that resembles calligraphy. Each guest can draw her noble name by pulling "Excalibur" out of a Styrofoam stone. You can use a plastic tablecloth and self-adhesive felt for each child to make his own coat of arms, and medieval drinking goblets can be created by gluing acrylic jewels to plastic glasses.
Hard-Hat Area
A construction-style party is great for the kid who loves dump trucks and bulldozers. You can make invitations out of wooden craft rectangles, which will resemble scrap wood. Your guests can build a house out of cardboard boxes by adding shingles, paint and whatever else they can think of. Once completed, they can use it as a playhouse. You can make an edible excavator with pound cake and Twinkies, while adding crushed Oreos for dirt.
Ferris Wheels and Roller Coasters
A carnival is a great summertime adventure. You can bring that same adventure to your child's birthday party. You can buy small trinkets in bulk to use for carnival prizes. You can make carnival booths with games like basketball shooting, putting, tossing a ball and throwing a football through a hoop. You or another parent can dole out food dressed as a hot-dog vendor and yelling "Getcher Hot Dogs Here!" at the right time.
Goal!
A soccer party is great for a birthday or just to celebrate the local team. You can make a pennant banner, using reduced, color copies of your team's jersey for the pennants. The kids can play a game in which they see who can keep his balloon in the air the longest. The trick is that hands cannot be used, only heads and feet. You can also set up a cone course and have the kids navigate it while dribbling their balloons.
