Teen Murder Mystery Party Ideas

Host a teen murder mystery party.

There are a number of approaches you can take to create a teen murder mystery party that your teen will enjoy. Add a surprise or two to your murder mystery party for your teen, but remember to make sure your teen is aware that it is just "pretend" to avoid giving them too much of a fright. Invite his friends to participate in putting on the perfect murder mystery party. Purchase the supplies you need at a crafts store and/or costume store.

Act it Out

If you want to really surprise your teen, create an original murder mystery for them to solve or let them compete with friends to see who unravels the mystery first. The murder mystery drama you create can be for a birthday or Halloween party. Have someone pose as the murder victim or purchase a dummy that can provide invaluable clues to solving the mystery. Provide clues throughout the crime scene and even include items that can be traced to other locations. Create a backstory for characters that can provide a motive for various characters to have committed the crime.

Literature/Film

A recreation of your teen's favorite murder mystery story can be another approach to consider when planning your teen's next party. For example, if your teen is an avid reader of Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys or even a fan of Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot, base your murder mystery on a story on these works that you think she would most enjoy re-enacting. Rent or make the appropriate costumes so that your teen can emulate the protagonist of the story.

Games

Fill your murder mystery party with murder mystery games. You can purchase a game like Clue or you can create your own murder mystery game. If you want to develop your own mystery game for a game board or cards you can create your materials design in a graphics program and have it printed by a printing service. A card game, for instance, can be based on a murder mystery that first describes a murder and then teens draw cards in an attempt to link various clues together so that he can figure out the culprit. The images on the cards can be made from photos of those attending the party.
