Scrapbook Albums Ideas

Make scrapbooks to preserve family vacation memories.

When scrapbooking, you can arrange your photos starting with birth and proceed through a lifetime, including everything and everyone in that chronology. Alternatively, you can pick a theme on which to base a scrapbook. Look at the pictures and other information you want to include in a scrapbook and break it down into specific themes, then create a few different scrapbooks for each theme. You will have more flexibility in design when you break your ideas into themes.

Heritage Theme Albums

Start heritage albums with a family tree tracing the genealogy of your family. Include photos, news clippings, important documents, family traditions and stories passed down through generations. If your family has a particular hobby or career that several generations have adopted, follow the progress through the years. For example, you could focus on a grandmother's love of gardening and how each generation carried on the tradition, or a grandfather who passed his love of cars on to the next generation, with a relative becoming a professional mechanic or race car driver. Include anecdotes, words of wisdom and family stories.

Family Theme Albums

Special family occasions, such as weddings, anniversaries, births or a family reunion make good scrapbooks. Include announcements, showers, parties, invitations, pictures, celebrations of the event, gifts, cards and note special messages on photos. Start the album before the event and have friends and family sign the album. Make an album for each family vacation or a large album recalling annual vacations for a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Make a scrapbook for each new birth and add to it each birthday. Present it to the adult child when she leaves the nest.

Holiday Theme Albums

Holidays hold many photographic memories, but we sometimes forget the little things that happen around the holidays. Record the tree trimming, gift-wrapping or cookie baking occasions throughout the holiday. Add greetings received--either include the full cards or cut out the design and use them to add to the page decor. Remember to include stamps from distant friends and family. Use scraps of gift wrap to create paper embellishments. Include all events for one year's holidays or make individual albums for each holiday through several years. Record special notes on family holiday traditions, like baking, crafting, caroling or entertaining.

Miscellaneous Theme Albums

When creating scrapbooks, remember what makes each person special. Make scrapbooks about children's school activities, scouting events and athletic teams. Highlight a child's interest and growth in art, music or dance or fishing, camping and other hobbies. Trace the development of one interest or the variety of interests pursued throughout a lifetime. Start a scrapbook for a college student and include all activities, social organizations, dorms, fraternity and sorority photos and events. Especially include mementos and pictures of graduation day. These are all things we look back on later on with fond memories.
