Reggae culture and music caters to the party crowd. The smooth, laid back vibe of reggae music complements most social settings and gives people the image of the Caribbean Islands. For your next reggae themed party, add some small but important details to give your guests an authentic reggae experience. Does this Spark an idea?

Decor

Reggae culture has a definitive color scheme: red, yellow and green with black accents. So, at your next reggae party, you do not need to worry about choosing a color scheme for your decor; it is already chosen for you. Decorate with flags, napkins, plates, forks and streamers that come in the solid reggae colors. also, thatched huts and even some sand will give your guests an authentic island experience. Hang posters of Jamaica and other Caribbean islands, or of reggae legends like Bob Marley or Peter Tosh.

Food and Drink

Serve authentic Jamaican and Caribbean cuisine at the party. Jerk chicken is a popular Caribbean dish. You can buy a jerk sauce to add to grilled chicken, or make your own jerk sauce by blending two yellow onions, two-thirds cup of sugar, one teaspoon of allspice, a pinch of cinnamon, four cloves of garlic and two Scotch Bonnet peppers in a blender. Serve the chicken with some coconut rice or steamed vegetables. Fresh pineapple and other tropical fruits are another option for food to serve at your party.

As far as drinks go, you can serve water, soda and Red Stripe, the official beer of Jamaica. You can also blend up Caribbean drinks like pina coladas. to make one, blend three ounces of light rum, three tablespoons of coconut cream, three tablespoons of crushed pineapple and two cups of ice. Garnish with a cherry, pineapple or other fruit. You can even serve the blended tropical drinks with a little umbrella and a coconut shaped glass. Rum and Cokes or other rum mixed drinks are appropriate as well.

Music

When most people think of reggae culture, they think of the music. Bob Marley and Peter Tosh are the most famous reggae artists, so be sure to include them on your playlists. Other reggae acts include Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, Burning Spear, Black Uhuru, The Wailers and King Tubby. Set up the stereo near the bar area of dance floor if you have one; reggae music is appropriate as both background music or for dancing. Or, take your party to the next level by hiring a reggae band or DJ to perform.
