Turn an ordinary birthday party into an evening fit for a star.
For movie-inspired birthday parties, base your celebration around the red carpet. You can then develop the theme as you wish by adding certain decorations and activities. Red carpet birthday parties are popular with teenagers, who will enjoy contributing to the party planning and feeling like celebrities for an evening. Does this Spark an idea?
Film Awards Party
For invitations take inspiration from old movie reels and other film equipment.
All movie fans love to watch the annual Academy Awards; why not take it a step further and turn your red carpet birthday party into your own awards ceremony? Send Hollywood film--themed invitations in the shape of old movie reels, boxes of popcorn or backstage passes. A great idea for customized invitations is to have a picture of a director's chair on the front of the card with your guest's name printed on the chair back; make the birthday girl feel like the star of a movie! Make sure your invitations ask your guests to "dress to impress." Aside from your red carpet lining your front walk, drape sheer white or black material over your walls with gold or silver stars attached. Strings of Christmas lights on the ceiling and walls will add sparkle. For your own awards ceremony, have different film-inspired categories such as "Best Actor," "Best Romantic Couple," "Best Talent" and "Most Likely to Become a Hollywood Star." Hand out voting forms at the start of the evening and ask guests to vote. Toward the end of the party, present the winners with their own "Oscars"---cardboard cutouts of the famous statuette painted gold. Nominate someone to take plenty of pictures to make the winners feel like true stars.
"Lights! Camera! Action!" Party
Give your red carpet party a camera theme to make guests feel like celebrities.
A "Lights! Camera! Action!" party starts when your guests walk up the red carpet to your venue; have a parent or sibling take pictures of each guest as they arrive---ask them to strike a pose! These pictures can be printed off and given to guests before they leave as a memorable keepsake of the party. Hand out disposable cameras to guests and ask them to take lots of pictures throughout the evening. These can be used to create an extra present for the birthday boy or girl; friends can compile an album of the best photographs. Set up a camera on a tripod at the party and provide a dressing-up box for guests to enjoy; have plenty of feather boas, outrageous wigs, costume jewelry and black sunglasses, and ask everyone to style themselves for unique photographs. Make sure you have trays of nonalcoholic sparkling fruit juice on hand to refresh your guests after their photo shoot. Balloons and banners with a movie star theme are available from local party stores and online party supply retailers. Add a personal touch by making stars out of cardboard and painting them silver and gold. Write each guest's name on a star and dangle the stars from the ceiling.
Hollywood Glamour Party
Ask guests to dress to impress for your party.
Send out personalized invitations to your Hollywood Glamour Party: a backstage pass or a picture of the host posing on the red carpet. Cut out large letters from thick card stock and spell out "Hollywood"; prop these up in your front yard and illuminate them with Christmas lights so that there is no doubt where the party is being held. Line your front walk with a long red runner and take pictures of guests as they walk down your very own red carpet. Extend the glamour theme to your food and drink: serve canapes on large silver trays and create nonalcoholic cocktails in light-up martini glasses or champagne flutes. On screens around your party, show well-known movies with a glamorous theme, such as "Sex in the City" and "Pretty Woman."
